DR. IDRIS SAMAWI HAMID
Dr. Idris Samawi Hamid is a published and well-respected professor at Colorado State University, focusing on Islamic Philosophy, Cosmology, Metaphysics, and Mysticism. Hamid has been trained in the Arabic language, syntax and morphology, having started at a young age. He describes the transition to focus primarily on Islamic cosmology as a very natural one, along with a degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies that has prepared him for his lifetime of advanced scholarly pursuits. Hamid’s advanced degree is a Ph.D. from the State University of New York, Buffalo. His further studies in physics naturally focused on cosmology, which is an area of study about the nature of the Universe as a whole. Matrix, in More Matrix and Philosophy (Open Court Press).
DR. ABBAS MIRAKHOR
Dr. Abbas Mirakhor was born in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. He received his Ph.D. in economics in 1969 from Kansas State University. Between 1969 and 1984 he has taught at various universities in the U.S. and Iran. He served on the staff of the International Monetary Fund from 1984 up to 1990. From 1990 to 2008 he served as the IMF Executive Director for Afghanistan, Algeria, Ghana, Islamic Republic of Iran, Morocco, Pakistan, and Tunisia, and has also served as Dean of the Executive Board of the Fund. Dr. Mirakhor is the co-author of Essays on Iqtisad: Islamic Approach to Economic Problems (1989), Theoretical Studies in Islamic Banking and Finance (1987), Introduction to Islamic Finance: Theory and Practice (2007), and New Issues in Islamic Finance and Economics (2008). He has received several awards including the “Order of Companion of Volta” for service to Ghana, conferred by the President of Ghana (2005); Islamic Development Bank Annual Prize for Research in Islamic Economics, shared with Mushin Khan in 2003, and “Quaid-e Azam” star for service to Pakistan, conferred by the President of Pakistan in 1997. He is also the first holder of the Chair of Islamic Finance at the INCEIF (International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance), Kuala Lumpur.
